Ray Kurzweil (Kurzweil Technologies, Inc.) and Tim O’Reilly (O’Reilly Media, Inc.), “A Presentation and Conversation with Ray Kurzweil and Tim O’Reilly” The interview is a few minutes under an hour. But it’s worth checking out Ray’s interactive text book demo (minute 4:00). In terms of reference material, even non fiction, this is precisely where we need to be in terms of how we interact with text, both in and out of the classroom.

At TEDIndia, Pranav Mistry demos several tools that help the physical world interact with the world of data — including a deep look at his SixthSense device and a new, paradigm-shifting paper “laptop.” In an onstage Q&A, Mistry says he’ll open-source the software behind SixthSense, to open its possibilities to all.

Ignite talks are are short five minute presentations using 20 slides that auto-advance every 15 seconds. The talks cover a wide range of topics.

Tim O’Reilly, founder of O’Reilly Media, explains how what he learned from the Human Potential Movement of the 70’s has become the foundation of his business today.

I’ve seen Tim O’Reilly give talks at least a dozen times. In front of thousands of people. He’s a brilliant speaker, and thinker, but even Bill seems rushed under the time constrains of an Ignite talk. The George Simon book Tim referenced is nearly impossible to find. However, if you’re interested, Tim published an article this year titled “Books That Have Shaped How I Think”.

Absolutely hilarious. Baratunde Thurston is a comedian, vigilante pundit and television host. He is the co-founder of Jack & Jill Politics, blogs for The Huffington Post and his own site baratunde.com, and hosts “Popular Science’s Future Of” on the Science Channel.

I’m a big fan of Jeff Jarvis. I recently read his book What Would Google Do? (HarperCollins 2009), I found it refreshingly insightful. If you don’t know Jeff Jarvis he runs Buzz Machine, a popular blog about media and news . He is an associate professor and director of the interactive journalism program at the City University of New York’s new Graduate School of Journalism and a regular on one of my favorite net casts This Week in Google from Leo Laporte’s Twit network.

The presentation is about an hour long and there are a number of segments worth watching. Fora TV does an adequate job of breaking their presentations down into segments for syndication, but they don’t however,  offer presentations in their entirety for syndication, so I’ve included the first 10 minutes. I have a tremendous amount of respect for Clay Shirky. I first hear him speak at the Web 2.0 Expo in San Fransisco, CA in 2008. Immediately following his talk I read his book Here Comes Everybody: The Power of Organizing Without Organizations. I was hooked.
