If you follow social media and online marketing you’re no stranger to Chris Brogan. He is President of New Marketing Labs, a new media marketing agency that advises businesses on the use of social media tools for online marketing, brand development, internal collaboration, and community building. He is a writer and blogger, active in the Twittersphere, and other social networks. His publisher Wiley captured his speech about his upcoming book with Julien Smith called Trust Agents.
I get the origin of phrase (now a word) Web 2.0 , the reason why Darcy DiNucci first coined it, and why it became so popular when Tim O’Reilly adapted the phrase and founded the Web 2.0 conference. But I don’t see the value in labeling the web in versions – i.e. Web 1.0, Web 2.0. However, I do see the point Chris Brogan makes when he discusses making “that turn” during the presentation at BEA. Whether you call it Web 2.0 or not.
Web 1.0 was nothing but brochureware…Web 2.0 is the two-way web, the participatory web, it’s not (the) all about me web, a lot of us didn’t make that turn.
